Photographer Spotlight: Eddy Hougen

Eddy Hougen

This is Me: Portraits of Pathlight is a photography project that focuses the camera lens on people served by Pathlight throughout Western Massachusetts. Renowned local photographers have partnered with Pathlight to shoot portraits that convey the strength, beauty, complexity, and personality of people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism.

Meet photographer Eddy:

Eddy Hougen has been a program assistant/teacher at Whole Children and Milestones for nearly three years, where he has facilitated, and created classes in Photography, Theater, Songwriting, Dance Movement, Self-Advocacy, and Visual Art. He is a proud player in the Friendship Band, Whole Children’s original rock group, who are working on their first album due this winter. In 2015, Eddy created the Holiday Bash, a benefit concert for Whole Children that will see its 5th annual production this December.

Eddy trained as an actor in Chicago and New York City in the 1990’s, and also took on numerous directing jobs in NYC during his time there. He has worked with Nicki Minaj, Edie Falco, Judy Greer, Shira Piven, and many other gifted artists. Eddy was one of the improvisers who workshopped the script for “Girls Town” (1996), which earned actor Lili Taylor an Independent Spirit award, and won the Sundance Filmmaker’s Trophy.

Eddy lives in Florence, MA with his wife Sarah, his two beautiful daughters Greta Jo and Emma Lee, and their mischievous kitties Coco and Teddy. He believes strongly that art, in all its forms, can be a powerful healer, a brilliant teacher, and a wonderful tool for communicating ideas and sharing perspectives.

Be sure to join us at the This is Me: Portraits of Pathlight opening reception at the Northampton Center for the Arts during Arts Night Out on September 13, 2019 from 5pm-8pm, for each portrait’s big debut!
