Are you looking for a change in your living arrangement? Perhaps you wanted to move to the area or are a grad student attending a local university. You could possibly be considering downsizing, or – like many- find the current housing market too high to purchase right now and plan to continue renting. Or maybe, you’re one of the select few who’ve decided for their profession to provide live-in supports for those in their care. If any of these scenarios sound like your situation – please continue reading!
Pathlight has a unique Shared Living opportunity available in South Hadley. We are currently seeking a Care Provider who is willing to MOVE INTO the apartment of an individual we support, a man we’ll call “P.” for now. P. is very independent. He is laid-back, but also has a fun-loving side. A jokester at heart – he has a good grasp of sarcasm and comedic timing. P. is an avid sports fan, and loves going out into his community, visiting friends, and attending church. He also enjoys his daily walks around the neighborhood.
During the work week, P. attends his day program, Riverside Industries (they provide the transportation). While there, he’s demonstrated his reliability having retained a job over the years through their supportive employments program. As P. has a close relationship with his family, it isn’t unusual for him to go to his parent’s home one day out of the weekend, or to have them swing by for a visit. While he doesn’t require help with personal care, he will need prompting to help with his ADLs (activities of daily living) and keeping his room clean. P. will also need some supports around meal preparation and general household management.
Ideal candidates for Care Providers would have previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities (though not required), be able to establish clear and consistent routines, set reasonable limits, and provide structure. Good communication skills, reliability, maturity, and flexibility are required. Although family can of course visit the apartment, we are not looking for Care Providers at this time who would need their children to live with them, or those who have pets.
P.s Care Provider will receive an annual and generous stipend, as well as training, case management supports, and respite.
